The 1968 Lamborghini Miura Roadster: A Unique Bertone Creation

Jul 18, 2025

When it comes to iconic sports cars, the Lamborghini Miura is always near the top of the list. Its sleek and exotic design, powerful V12 engine, and groundbreaking mid-engine layout made it a legend in the automotive world. But what about a Miura without a roof? That's where the one-off 1968 Lamborghini Miura Roadster comes into play.

Built by renowned Italian coachbuilder Bertone, the Miura Roadster was actually more of a targa model, as it lacked a removable roof. First unveiled at the 1968 Brussels Auto Show, this unique creation turned heads wherever it went. While a few other Miuras have had their roofs removed, the Bertone Miura Roadster was the only factory open-top Miura ever produced.

After its initial debut, the Miura Roadster was sold to the International Lead Zinc Research Organization (ILZRO), who transformed it into a display vehicle showcasing the possibilities of using zinc alloys in cars. Renamed the ZN75, the car had a new purpose but still retained its stunning design and Lamborghini pedigree.

Fast forward to 2006 when New York City real estate developer Adam Gordon acquired the ZN75. Wanting to restore the car to its original Bertone Roadster form, Gordon entrusted Bobilff Motorcars in San Diego, California to bring this unique Miura back to its former glory. The painstaking restoration process paid off, as the Miura Roadster made its grand return at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August 2008.

With its striking design, powerful performance, and rich history, the 1968 Lamborghini Miura Roadster stands as a rare and fascinating piece of automotive history. A true one-off creation that captures the imagination of car enthusiasts and collectors alike, this Bertone masterpiece continues to turn heads and evoke awe wherever it goes.
