Comet was an American automobile brand that operated briefly from 1906 to 1908. The brand originated with the Occidental Motor Car Company, based in San Jose, California. The first Comet vehicles were produced during the years 1906 and 1907, utilizing a 3293cc four-cylinder overhead valve engine designed by Elbert Hall, the brand's founder.
After the closure of the Occidental Motor Car Company in 1907, Hall relocated to San Francisco, where he continued to manufacture Comet vehicles under the Hall Auto Repair Company and later the Hall Automobile Company. During this period, Hall produced a total of six additional Comet roadsters, all of which were two-seaters. These vehicles gained recognition for their performance in local racing events.
In 1909 and 1910, Hall built two more Comet cars to special order, one featuring a six-cylinder engine and the other equipped with a V8 engine. The latter model was purchased by George W. Scott, leading to a partnership between Hall and Scott. This partnership resulted in the establishment of Hall-Scott Motor Car Company in Berkeley, California, which focused on manufacturing engines that were widely utilized in trucks, buses, railcars, and aircraft.
