Colt Runabout Company was established in 1907 in Yonkers, New York, by William Mason Turner. The company produced a light roadster known as the Colt Runabout, which was powered by a 40-horsepower six-cylinder engine. This engine was manufactured by William S. Howard, who operated in a space rented from Turner.

The Colt Runabout, often referred to as the "Mile A Minute" runabout, was designed to be lightweight, weighing approximately 816 kilograms. Despite its performance capabilities and a competitive price of $1,500, the vehicle did not attract a significant number of buyers. The pricing strategy likely hindered Turner's ability to generate profit, leading to the company's closure within the same year it was founded.

Production estimates for the Colt Runabout varied, with figures ranging from two units to fewer than one hundred. Following the closure of Colt Runabout Company, Howard continued to manufacture a few vehicles similar to the Colt in 1908, drawing on his previous experience in the automotive industry in the Yonkers area.
