D.U. Manufacturing Co. Ltd was established in Clapham, London, and operated from 1914 to 1916. The company was founded by Harold E. Dew, who previously created the Dewcar before departing from that venture in February 1914. D.U. Manufacturing Co. Ltd focused on producing cyclecars, specifically the D. Ultra model, which was an advancement over its predecessor.
The D. Ultra featured a more sophisticated design, incorporating a water-cooled Chater-Lea 8hp V-twin engine, a 4-speed friction transmission, and chain drive. The vehicle was available in two configurations: as a two-seater and as a delivery van. For the 1915 season, the company expanded its offerings to include both air-cooled and water-cooled twin engines, as well as a four-cylinder variant powered by a 10hp water-cooled Lister engine.
Despite its innovative designs, D.U. Manufacturing Co. Ltd had a brief existence, ceasing operations in 1916. The company's contributions to the cyclecar segment reflected the early 20th-century automotive industry's experimentation with engine types and vehicle configurations.
