The NAMI-0284 Debut-2 was a Soviet concept car developed as a refinement of the original NAMI-0284 Debut, an "extra-small" class prototype built in 1987 with an eye toward influencing a future production ZAZ model. The Debut-2 retained the compact form and pronounced fastback rear of the first Debut but was reworked in detail, becoming about 5 cm shorter and 1 cm wider than its predecessor, with luggage capacity increased from 0.28 to 0.32 cubic metres.
Visually, the Debut-2 introduced smaller headlights at the front, a redesigned air intake in the front spoiler, and asymmetrical wheel covers, along with new upholstery. The air slits ahead of the windscreen were deleted, and the bonnet opening was reduced to a conventional size. Weight was cut by more than 100 kg to 620 kg, and the car achieved a drag coefficient of 0.21, with a top speed given as 145 km/h. Bodywork was made of plastic, in a three-door, four-seat small-car layout.
A version of this concept was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in autumn 1989 as the Debut II Turbo (NAMI 0284). It used the 644 cc two-cylinder engine from the Oka, turbocharged to produce 35 hp at 5500 rpm and 70 Nm at 3200 rpm, up from 28 hp, allowing 0-100 km/h in 21 seconds. At a steady 90 km/h it used only 3 litres per 100 km according to its Japanese-language brochure, against a stated average of 4.8 litres per 100 km. This turbocharged variant weighed 640 kg, rode on a 236 cm wheelbase, measured 364/156/137 cm (L/W/H), and offered ground clearance adjustable between 13 and 22 cm. Equipment included an airbag built into a steering wheel fitted with control buttons.
