NAMI-0284 Debut was a concept car of what was then described as the "extra-small" class, built in 1987 with an eye toward applying some of its solutions to a future production ZAZ model. Its original body achieved good aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.23. A later variant with slightly revised trim, known as Debut-II, was also built.
Debut ran on Oka-family engines, the VAZ-1111 and VAZ-11113, while the Debut-II variant used a MeMZ-245 engine instead. Tests were also planned with a turbocharged VAZ-11113 and a 16-valve MeMZ head, though these remained at the planning stage. The car was equipped with an electro-vacuum clutch and a cruise control system.
It measured 3,685 mm long, 1,550 mm wide and 1,370 mm tall on a 2,360 mm wheelbase, built as a three-door hatchback with a front-mounted engine driving the front wheels. Its inline engines displaced 650 cc (VAZ-1111) or 750 cc (VAZ-11113), each with 4 overhead valves per the two-cylinder layout, producing 28 hp (21 kW) at 4,800 rpm or 34 hp (25 kW) at 5,600 rpm respectively, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Front suspension was independent, spring-based and of MacPherson type, while the rear, sourced from the VAZ-2108, used a dependent spring setup. Brakes were hydraulic with a vacuum booster, discs at the front and drums at the rear, with a 12-volt electrical system and 135R12 tires.
