The Fjord 9001 was a concept car shown by Euro Design Engineering at the Paris Motor Show, the only public appearance the company made. Euro Design Engineering was a firm with an address in France and three in Turin, describing itself as an association of designers, engineers, and technicians with expertise in the artistic and technical styling of automobiles. Its team of around 70 people worked with CAD and CAM tools, aiming to offer the automotive industry a full range of services from aesthetic planning through to the construction of rolling prototypes.
As its name and front-end styling indicated, the Fjord 9001 was based on the Saab 9000. It was designed as a sporting estate with three doors and four seats, and was presented as an elegant example of Euro Design's capabilities. The company stated that its lines had been refined through wind tunnel testing, resulting in a drag coefficient of 0.30, a notable figure for this type of estate bodywork. Door handles, the fuel filler cap, and the rear lights were integrated flush into contrasting body sections.
Mechanically, the Fjord 9001 retained the Saab 9000 platform, powered by a 1985 cc four-cylinder engine offered with or without turbocharging. Euro Design intended the car as a luxury niche product, anticipating worthwhile demand for it, though it did not proceed beyond this single concept presentation.
