Duryea [1] (United States)

Duryea was an American automobile manufacturer that operated from the early 1890s until the early 1910s. Founded by the Duryea brothers, Charles and Frank, the company initially established the Duryea Motor Wagon Company in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1893. This company is recognized for producing one of the first gasoline-powered vehicles in the United States, marking a significant milestone in automotive history.

In 1898, the company transitioned to the Duryea Manufacturing Company, relocating to Peoria, Illinois. This period was characterized by the development of various motorized vehicles, although the company faced challenges in the competitive automotive market. By 1899, the Duryea Power Company was established in Reading, Pennsylvania, where the brothers continued to innovate and refine their automotive designs.

The Duryea Motor Company was formed in Reading in 1908, and it operated until 1913, producing a range of vehicles during its tenure. In 1911, the company rebranded as the Duryea Automobile Company, and it continued to manufacture vehicles in Saginaw, Michigan, until 1914. Throughout its existence, Duryea contributed to the early automotive industry, laying the groundwork for future developments in vehicle technology.
