The Mimosa Project was an Italian research program led by Gruppo GGG Elettromeccanica and presented around 2014. Its name stood for “Micro-car with ecological, modular and safe propulsion with high versatility of use.” The project aimed to address the limitations of existing European microcars, which lacked passive safety because regulations did not require full crash testing. Mimosa sought to create a multipurpose chassis with high crash resistance, developed in collaboration with the Fiat Research Center, to allow multiple body styles and traction systems to be built on a common platform. Prototypes were constructed with ecological drivetrains, and concept versions included both a small city car and a pickup. The industrial goal was to supply this modular, crashworthy chassis as a base for a new generation of safer micro-vehicles adaptable to different applications. The project concluded by the mid-2010s without evidence of large-scale production.
