The Bertone Shake: A Stylish Off-Road Adventure

Jul 19, 2025

Back in 1970, at the Paris Motor Show, automotive enthusiasts were treated to a sight like no other - the Bertone Shake. This unique creation by the Turin designer was built on a SIMCA 1200 S chassis, the same one used for the coupé designed for the French manufacturer.

Inspired by the "dune buggy" concept, Bertone decided to take it to the next level with the Shake. Unlike the typical homemade off-road vehicles, the Shake was designed to not only look stylish but also ensure safety in all driving conditions, especially off-road.

Taking cues from the 1969 Runabout design, the SIMCA 1200 S chassis was adapted to incorporate some stylistic elements to make the Shake stand out. The attention to detail didn't stop at the structure of the car - every finishing touch was meticulously crafted to perfection.

At the Paris Motor Show, the Bertone Shake stole the show, capturing the hearts of many, especially the younger crowd. The combination of style, functionality, and off-road capability made it a crowd favorite.

While the Bertone Shake may have been a product of its time, its legacy lives on as a symbol of innovative design and adventurous spirit. Who knows, maybe one day we'll see a modern interpretation of the Shake hitting the off-road trails, ready for a stylish adventure.
