In 1969, Ford introduced the world to the unique Ranchero Scrambler Concept, a show car that redefined the boundaries between a car and a truck. Built from a standard production 1969 Ranchero, this high-style pickup promised to not only turn heads but also deliver the performance of a true powerhouse.
The Scrambler design was a work of art, incorporating several front and rear features from the Fairlane Super Cobra, another show car from Ford Division that was making waves on the auto show circuit. The oval two-part grille with an egg crate design, the through-the-hood "shaker" air scoop, and the extended roof panels all contributed to the Scrambler's unique and aggressive look.
But it wasn't just about looks with the Scrambler. Under the hood was a powerful 428 Cobra Jet engine, ready to unleash its full potential at a moment's notice. The full-width taillights, built-in air spoiler on the tailgate, and eight-inch-wide styled wheels with wide oval F 60 by 15 Polyglas tires completed the performance package.
The exterior was finished in a special ivy gold pearl finish with a color-keyed vinyl roof, while the interior featured high-back bucket seats in a matching dark ivy vinyl with accent stripes for that extra touch of luxury. The dark ivy nylon carpeting continued the color scheme, creating a cohesive and stylish look inside the cabin.
But what truly set the Scrambler apart were the "his and her" mini-scrambler motorbikes mounted in the pickup box, a unique extra that added a touch of playfulness to this serious machine. With its blend of style, performance, and innovation, the 1969 Ford Scrambler Concept remains a standout in automotive history, a true testament to the creativity and engineering prowess of Ford during this era.
