1996 Maggiora Barchetta Coupé: A Stylish Reimagining of a Modern Classic

Jul 23, 2025

At the 66th Turin International Motor Show, Italian coachbuilder Maggiora unveiled a coupé version of the Fiat Barchetta. This prototype retained the two-seater layout and mechanicals of the original roadster while adopting a fixed roof and a more sculpted rear end featuring a spacious tailgate. The design drew inspiration from classic British sports cars of the 1960s, emphasizing smooth lines and compact proportions.

Maggiora placed particular emphasis on the interior, outfitting it with blue-grey Connolly leather and ice blue Alcantara across the door panels, roof lining, and luggage compartment. The result was a cabin with a premium feel, contrasting the more utilitarian standard Barchetta.

Under the hood, the car used the same 1747 cc inline-four engine, producing 130 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 164 Nm of torque at 4300 rpm. Performance and handling remained in line with the original open-top version, offering a balanced and enjoyable driving experience.

Though it never entered production, the Maggiora Barchetta Coupé stands out as a refined and stylish reinterpretation of a modern Fiat classic, blending Italian craftsmanship with vintage sports car character.
