The 1968 Ford Fiera was built on the XL platform and featured a series of styling modifications that gave it a distinct, performance-focused appearance. Among these changes was a lowered roofline, which altered the angles of both the front and rear windshields, resulting in a notably sleek profile. The grille, mostly stock in appearance, was recessed more deeply than standard and flanked by rectangular auxiliary driving lights placed on either side of the original grille divider.
Under the louvered hood sat a 428 engine, reinforcing the car’s performance intentions. Several standard exterior features were removed, including vent windows, side moldings, front side marker lamps, and rear side reflectors. In their place, racing-style outside mirrors were installed, contributing to a cleaner and more aggressive look.
The rear wheel openings were slightly enlarged to accommodate brake cooling vents positioned just ahead of the wheels. Wide-oval white wall tires were mounted on a set of custom wheels, further setting the Fiera apart from stock XL models. At the rear, a wide trunk molding stretched out to the taillights, with the extensions replacing the original back-up lamp assemblies.
The 1968 Ford Fiera stands out as a one-off interpretation of late-1960s Ford design, with modifications that were subtle but effective in changing the car’s stance, character, and purpose.
