Doug Rippie Motorsports (DRM) was established in Plymouth, Minnesota, around 1994. The company was founded by Doug Rippie, who had previously gained recognition for building successful racing versions of Chevrolet Corvettes and Camaros. This experience in motorsports laid the groundwork for DRM's transition into the production of street cars.
In 1994, DRM introduced the DRM/4001G, a modified version of the Camaro. The vehicle was notable for its powerful V8 engine options, which included displacements of 5.7 liters and 6.3 liters, producing up to 430 horsepower. The DRM/4001G achieved impressive performance metrics, with a top speed of approximately 185 mph (298 km/h).
Customers had the option to purchase the DRM/4001G as a fully assembled vehicle derived from new Camaros, or they could opt to buy individual components for custom builds. In addition to the DRM/4001G, the company also developed a modified Corvette known as the Black Widow, further showcasing its expertise in high-performance automotive engineering.
