Chelsea Manufacturing Company was established in 1914 in Newark, New Jersey, as a manufacturer of light automobiles. The company produced vehicles that were referred to as "cyclocars," although they fell within the light car classification.
The Chelsea vehicles were equipped with a 12-horsepower, four-cylinder water-cooled engine, featuring a conventional gearbox and shaft drive. Initially, the company announced plans to produce 500 cars in its first year; however, the actual output was likely much lower than this projection.
Despite its ambitious start, Chelsea Manufacturing Company did not achieve significant production levels and eventually ceased operations, leaving behind a brief but notable mark in the early automotive industry.
