The American Cyclecar Company was established in 1914 in Detroit, Michigan. Despite its name, the company focused on producing light automobiles rather than cyclecars. The vehicles were designed by Harry J. Stoops and featured a 14/18 horsepower four-cylinder engine along with a shaft drive system.
Production of the American Cyclecar was limited, and the company struggled to maintain operations in Detroit. Subsequently, the design and assets of the company were acquired by the Trumbull brothers, who relocated production to Bridgeport, Connecticut. The vehicles were then manufactured under the name Trumbull, marking a transition from the original brand.
