Dare (UK) Ltd. was a British automotive manufacturer based in Colchester, Essex. The company was founded by Ivor and Trevers Walklett, who were also among the founders of the Ginetta brand. Initially, Dare operated as a subcontractor for a Japanese company that had acquired the rights to the Ginetta G4 and G12 models, allowing them to manufacture these vehicles under license.
In 1998, Dare introduced a new model known as the Dare DZ. This vehicle was designed by Ivor Walklett and aimed to offer a practical two-seater sports car that combined generous luggage space with the aesthetic appeal of a Formula 1 car. The DZ featured a composite body molded onto a space frame, along with front and rear wings, inboard front suspension, and a transverse Ford Zetec engine mounted amidships. An optional supercharged version of the engine produced 210 brake horsepower.
The design of the Dare DZ included exposed front wheels with cycle wings, while the rear wheels were enclosed within the bodywork, which also housed twin side radiators. The car was available in both open and gullwing coupe forms, and it featured pop-up headlights positioned on either side of a deep, sloping windscreen.
