Black Jack

Blackjack Cars was a small British manufacturer based in Helston, Cornwall, associated with the designer Richard Oakes, who had previously created well-known kit car designs such as the Nova, the Midas and the Deltayn Pegasus. The Blackjack marque was notable as the first project that Oakes brought into production under his own direction.

The company's principal model, the Blackjack Avion, was a three-wheeled cyclecar powered by a Citroën 2CV engine. The engine was mounted within a steel tube subframe, with a rear subframe supporting a single swinging arm for the rear wheel arrangement characteristic of three-wheeler design. Front suspension relied on coil springs and used Citroën-derived components, reflecting the car's dependence on readily available donor parts.

The Avion's bodywork was constructed from glass-fibre and featured a doorless, open design, with optional weather equipment available for protection from the elements. This lightweight and minimalist approach to construction was typical of the low-volume cyclecar sector in which Blackjack operated, emphasizing simplicity and affordability over refinement.

Blackjack Cars remained a niche producer within the British kit car and cyclecar industry, with the Avion standing as its most recognized product and a representative example of small-scale, component-based vehicle manufacturing in Cornwall during the era.
