Company Name: Domino Car Co (UK) Ltd
Place: Curbridge, Southampton, Hampshire
Country: United Kingdom
Domino CarCo. was a British automotive manufacturer based in Southampton, Hampshire. The company was known for its innovative designs and unique approach to car production, particularly in the 1970s.
The flagship model of Domino was the Pimlico, which was designed by Richard Oakes. This vehicle featured a fibreglass monocoque construction, which was a departure from traditional automotive design. The Pimlico was characterized by its ribbed contrasting lower bodywork, pronounced wheel arches, and a distinctive targa roof, while notably lacking bumpers and doors. This design was a reinterpretation of the classic Mini, showcasing a blend of functionality and style.
In addition to the Pimlico, Domino produced several other body styles, including the Premier, which incorporated solid half-doors and sidescreens, and the fully enclosed Hard Top (HT). The company also ventured into the utility market with the Pup pickup model. Throughout its operation, Domino CarCo. expanded its offerings to include the VINCENT Hurricane and WIZARD kit cars, further diversifying its product line.
Despite its innovative designs, Domino CarCo. eventually ceased operations, leaving behind a legacy of unique automotive creations that reflected the experimental spirit of the era.
