Brand Data

Company Name: Avon Motor Manufacturing Co. Ltd

Place: Keynsham, Bristol

Country: United Kingdom

Avon Motor Manufacturing Co. Ltd was established in Keynsham, Bristol, and operated from 1903 to 1912. The company aimed to create a vehicle that bridged the gap between motorcycles and conventional cars, leading to the development of the Avon Trimobile. This vehicle featured a single-cylinder water-cooled engine, which evolved in power from 4 horsepower to an eventual 6 horsepower, with a bore and stroke of 98 x 114 mm.

The Trimobile was designed with a rear-mounted engine and a 3-speed gearbox, housed within a robust tubular frame reminiscent of motorcycle construction. It utilized a single front wheel with wheel steering and employed chain final drive. The vehicle's seating arrangement included a spacious two-person seat mounted on large coil springs, although this refinement was not present in the light delivery van variant.

In 1905, the price of the Trimobile increased from 80 guineas (£84) to 95 guineas (£99.75). The company also introduced a front-engine, four-wheeled model priced at 106 guineas (£111.30), which featured conventional leaf suspension. Despite appointing London agents, sales primarily remained local and eventually declined, leading to the cessation of operations.
