Belden Motor Car Company was established in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by E.H. Belden, who previously operated the Belden Transmission Company. The company began manufacturing complete automobiles in the early 1900s, with its first prototype, a 30-horsepower four-cylinder model, produced in 1907. Following this initial effort, Belden expanded its offerings to include six-cylinder models, specifically the 40/50 and 40/60 horsepower variants, which were available in various body styles such as tourers, roadsters, and town cars.
The pricing of Belden vehicles was notably high for the time, ranging from $4,800 to $6,000. In 1909, the company planned to produce 100 cars; however, it is likely that this target was not met, as by September of that year, Belden acknowledged that he had only completed a limited number of his six-cylinder cars.
