genty akylone was unveiled one month ago and today the french manufacturer of the new hypercar announced details of the aggregate to run their creation.
reinhard könneker has been chosen as the developer of the new 4.8-liter twin-turobocharged dohc v8 whose estimated power output is over 1000hp. more details can be found in the press release below.

genty automobile enlists reinhard könneker, a world-renowned motor-engineer to design and develop a new twin-turbo v8 producing more than 1000 hp (735kw) for the « hypercar » akylone.
akylone's heart :
akylone is a mid-engined car, powered by a new 90° v8 with 4 valves per cylinder and dual overhead cams, which displaces 4800 cc (293 ci) and produces more than 1000 hp (735 kw), due to its twin-turbocharging technology. the architecture of this engine is the result of a completely new development that aims to combine very high performance with maximum reliability and extreme power with lightness.
the fuel is controlled via a direct injection : this technique not only improves combustion, increasing torque at low and mid-range, but also efficiency, allowing better control of fuel consumption and facilitating compliance with future emissions standards "euro 6".
with its stroke / bore ratio of less than 1, this engine reaches over 8000 rpm (linear velocity of the piston is at this speed, 24m/second) when developing its full power. with a compression ratio of just 9:1, this superlative performance will not sacrifice long term durability.
the services of reinhard könneker, a world-renowned race engine creator, have been enlisted to perform the complete design of the new engine for automotive genty. mr könneker will be working in conjunction with well-known automotive partners.

reinhard könneker is a german engineer whose expertise in engine's design is impressive : after completing his formal studies, he cut his teeth on the engines of the porsche 908 and 917, le mans winners in the early 70s. he then spent several years perfecting his knowledge in metallurgical research .
he re-joined porsche until the late 80's where he provided the development for the tag-turbo formula 1 engines..
daimler-benz hired him in 90's as the head of their racing engine division : we owe him for the creation and development of the v12 for group c and the v6 engine victorious in dtm or itc. at the same time, he continued to imagine other innovative engine designs.
he assumed the same functions for bmw between 1998 and 2003, but this time on the formula 1 v10 engine and v8 alms.
he ended his corporate career in 2004 as chief engineer at porsche with the design and development of the v8 lmp2.
but the passion did not leave him and he became consulting engineer for audi where he participated in the development of motor sports production v8 and v10 engines as well as powerplants for lamborghini.
finally, he worked from 2007 to 2011 on design and development of an entirely new naturally aspirated v8 for ruf engineering . in 2011 he joined genty automobile to create the heart and soul of akylone : an engine which, beyond its superlative features, promises to have the genes of the world's most sophisticated race-engines.
