The Paris Motor Show of 2026 was chosen by Alfa Romeo for the worldwide debut of a car that neither previews a production model nor plays a simple styling game, and still carries a great deal of weight for the brand. For a marque of Italian sportiness since 1910, a car was never only a way of moving people from one place to another. It was something that stirs emotions, ignites the senses and builds a deep bond with the person behind the wheel. This conviction sits in the DNA of the Biscione, and the company puts the symbiotic relationship between driver and car even above distinctive design, engaging performance or advanced technology. Now the same conviction has to meet the new era of electrification, and Alfa Romeo has answered with a red 2+2 coupé. We are talking about the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso.
The name joins two words, Heart as a universal symbol of emotions and Red as a synonym for sportiness, and the two are meant to beat in unison. The car was conceived and developed by the people who build Alfa Romeos every day for Alfisti all over the world, and it is described as a manifesto rather than a preview of any single model. It is destined to inspire future cars and to show how the brand intends to face the coming years, in which electrification should not only keep the love for the automobile alive but amplify it through a new reading of performance, design and engagement. Within Stellantis, Alfa Romeo holds the role of a Premium Sports Brand, called to interpret what is defined as the efficient sportiness of the third millennium. Three elements give shape to the concept: Italy with its sartorial mastery and taste for design, sportiness understood as a tension towards dynamism and driving pleasure, and the color red, always intrinsic to the history of the marque.
Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo and Maserati, explained the thinking in his own words. Mr Ficili recalled that Alfa Romeo has always built cars able to arouse something in people, and that the connection between human and machine, fed by Italian spirit, sportiness and passion, is what makes each of them an Alfa Romeo. Cuorerosso carries that identity into a future open to different energy solutions, where technology, function and quality serve emotions and driving pleasure. He called this the brand’s idea of Bellezza Necessaria, a term coined by Alfa Romeo itself: cars made for those who love to drive, able to interpret their time and, at the same moment, become icons. As a design philosophy it removes the superfluous, reduces every component to the essential and gives each one a precise function, while materials, workmanship and finishes stay at the highest level. Aesthetics, functionality, technology and quality are meant to speak a single language.
That philosophy was applied to the car in a literal way. The Alfa Romeo Centro Stile spent only a week or two on the initial sketches and then moved straight to three-dimensional modeling, treating Cuorerosso as one solid block to be sculpted. At the beginning the block had no wheels, no glazing, no visuals and no details. It was a much radical gesture, chosen so that the designers could concentrate on theme, proportions and volumes and remove the unnecessary step by step until the form emerged. This follows the great Italian sculptural tradition, in which beauty seems to be waiting inside the material to be released. The result is a continuous, monolithic shape whose surfaces merge like liquid metal and lead the eye along the entire body without interruption, suggesting movement even when the car is standing still. The ambition was an object beautiful in itself, a sculpture able to exist independently of its automotive nature.
The proportions are those of a Gran Turismo mixed with the scenic presence of a supercar. Cuorerosso measures 4.700 mm in length and 1.980 mm in width, and it is just 1.331 mm high! The wheelbase is 2.930 mm and the weight is 1.750 kg. Three elements drive the aerodynamic work: the pure and uninterrupted shape of the body, the Coda Tronca, which is the truncated tail, and a low diffuser built into the bodywork. Together they allow a Cx of 0.28. From the side, a characteristic wedge line runs from the front to the rear, adding tension to the bodywork and ending in that same Coda Tronca, one of the most recognizable codes of Alfa Romeo tradition. Likewise the front, where Lo Scudetto is an essential part of the Trilobo, reinterpreted for today. The Trilobo forms the face of the car through a dialogue between the central Scudetto and the headlights, which resemble a pair of eyes in deliberately natural proportions with a concentrated, self-confident gaze. For Alfa Romeo, a car must not be reduced to a cold piece of technology, and has to establish a real relationship with the person looking at it.
Further to that, the Scudetto rises directly from the sculptural volume and runs along the bonnet, inspired by the wake of a boat moving on water. The grille is made of a weave of small backlit triangular elements, speaking with the historic symbols of the Cross and the Biscione and producing a light signature that beats like a heart. The same beat animates the welcome light for the driver. At the rear, a Scudetto-shaped window is integrated into the body volume, and the Coda Tronca carries two circular lights. No handles. The traditional ones have disappeared and the doors are opened by a touch control on the roof, while the rear-facing doors make entering the cabin more spectacular. Windows are fully flush, logos are integrated into the bodywork, and the mirrors carry a sequence of inlays with the Italian flag, shaped to echo the aerodynamic slats that divide volumes, reduce visual mass and frontal surface, and let air flow. The forged wheels reinterpret the famous telephone design with six circular elements on three spokes in a 2+2+2 scheme, with openings and grooves in the shape of the Scudetto to lighten the look and improve aerodynamic efficiency. Their titanium-inspired treatment mixes cool tones with warmer metallic reflections.
The Quadrifoglio symbol is present as well, carrying one of the most authentic expressions of Alfa Romeo sportiness into the future. Performance is also reflected in the dynamic hardware, with air suspension and a Brembo carbon-ceramic braking system fitted with specific Alfa Romeo calipers. For the powertrain, the source of performance can be imagined as a 2.9 V6 Full-Hybrid power aggregate paired with Q4 all-wheel drive, a torque converter and a carbon fiber driveshaft. This is electrification read according to the Alfa Romeo philosophy, with technology and innovation serving driving pleasure and sportiness. In addition to that, the concept anticipates a multi-energy approach that may include Full-Electric, Plug-in Hybrid, Mild Hybrid and Full-Hybrid solutions, so that different needs of use can be met without losing the distinctive values of the brand. The line-up is intended to reach the key segments of the market with models up to 4.7 meters long, and with room for Quadrifoglio versions.
The cabin repeats the idea of dynamism through lightness, simplicity and the central position of the driver. Seats are ergonomic and reinterpret the traditional bucket seat, and the environment gathers around the occupants like a driving glove while remaining comfortable. There are no less than four individual seats, enveloped by a lengthened center console and longitudinal volumes on the door panels. The dashboard takes its inspiration from the architecture of the 1967 33 Stradale and its newly launched counterpart. Its thin, horizontal line increases the perception of lightness, stability and technical control, and visually carries on into the door panels. Information and controls appear only when they are really needed. In front of the driver sits the new Cannocchiale Vivente, a reinterpretation of one of the brand’s stylistic features, now a dynamic interface moved by advanced kinematics. In the Immersivo configuration it keeps the traditional two-element layout, while in the Concentrato configuration the two telescopes physically merge into one, recalling the instrumentation of racing cars from the past. As the driver becomes more engaged, the information is progressively reduced to the absolute necessities.
The same thinking runs through the three driving experiences, Cruise, Sport and Quadrifoglio, which adjust the interaction between driver and car to the level of engagement required. The steering is steer-by-wire, controlled electronically, yet the iconic three-spoke wheel keeps a strong physical and analogue character under the principle of Con-tatto Volante, with haptic and acoustic feedback from mechanical controls strengthening the direct link with the car. On the central tunnel, the Magma Display is a phygital control center that combines a digital touch surface with a rotary dial, a drive mode selector and toggle controls. Technology stays discreet until needed and then becomes intuitive, immediate and precise. The cockpit technology may be developed further within STLA SmartCockpit, the Stellantis digital platform meant to offer an increasingly personalized in-car experience while preserving the identity of each brand.
Red, however, is the thread that ties everything together. The body wears the new Liquid Ink Red, obtained from a fine aluminum base covered by a colored transparent layer, which gives an almost infinite visual depth. Light enters the surface and reflects from within, so the color seems suspended between liquid metal and incandescent lava. Struck by light it looks intense and vibrant, and when the angle of observation changes it turns black. Inside, red becomes matter, light and movement. Entering through the rear door, opening into the wind, almost feels like crossing the threshold of the heart of Alfa Romeo, with a red, sinuous environment around the occupant. Nubuck and metals in shades inspired by titanium, anthracite and gunmetal are combined with new-generation materials, among them a regenerated leather made with 60% post-industrial waste from the processing of premium upholstery. Soft, hand-finished Poltrona Frau nubuck is used only where it touches the occupants. Research carried out together with Luna Rossa inspired a lightweight, transparent, tensioned monofilament fabric for the dashboard, derived from technical clothing for high-performance ocean sailing. Alfa Romeo is also experimenting with recycled carbon fibers combined with red resins, and the headrests follow a complex leatherworking process previously tried on the 33 Stradale.
There is room for a removable bag too, built into the dashboard on the passenger side and taken away when leaving the car. Its securing straps turn into the handle, which is Bellezza Necessaria once again, as every component gets a precise function. The color follows a true gradient, gaining intensity as it approaches the driver and cooling into darker, deeper shades towards the rear, and the manually applied color on the nubuck makes the same shaded effect. Light carries information according to driving mode: in Concentrato it is reduced to avoid any distraction, and in Quadrifoglio some elements are dimmed further while four points of light in the vents recall the Cross of the Alfa Romeo logo. When the center console wakes up, red light emerges from within through a texture inspired by magma and lava. Color, matter and light are calibrated so that the primordial energy of lava becomes living material, pulsing at the same rhythm as the heart of the person driving.
