Grumett was an automobile brand that operated in Uruguay from 1968 to 1976. The brand was a subsidiary of General Motors de Uruguay, based in Montevideo. Grumett produced a distinctive two-door car that featured design elements reminiscent of Australian coupe utilities.
The vehicles were constructed using a locally built tubular chassis paired with a fiberglass body, which contributed to their unique aesthetic and lightweight characteristics. The mechanical components of the Grumett were derived from the HA Viva, a model from the Vauxhall brand, which was part of the General Motors family.
Grumett cars were also marketed in Ecuador under the names Condor and Gacel, expanding their reach beyond the Uruguayan market. Notably, one Grumett was exported to the United Kingdom, where it underwent testing by General Motors, highlighting the brand's ambition to gain international recognition. Despite its relatively short production run, Grumett contributed to the automotive landscape of Uruguay during its existence.
