Dunkleys was a British manufacturer based in Birmingham, primarily known for producing prams before venturing into the automotive industry. The company began its foray into car manufacturing in 1896 with a distinctive vehicle characterized by its diamond-pattern wheel arrangement. This early model featured four wheels of unequal size, with the front and rear wheels being significantly smaller than those on the sides, which were responsible for propulsion. The seating arrangement followed an "aos-i-dos" pattern, allowing for steering from either end, although the braking system was limited to the rear-facing passenger.

In 1901, Dunkleys introduced a more conventional four-wheeled model, also powered by coal gas. This iteration featured wheels of equal size and a tandem seating configuration. However, after this release, the company ceased automobile production until 1913, when it launched the Alvechurch cyclecar.

Dunkleys continued to innovate with the introduction of the Pramotor in 1922, a unique scooter design that could be attached to a perambulator, ideally one manufactured by Dunkleys. The Pramotor was available with engines of 1 and 2.75 horsepower, and the Model 20 was noted for its luxurious fully enclosed coupe body. Despite its innovative design, the Pramotor faced challenges, including a high price of 135 guineas (£141.75) and legal restrictions that prohibited powered vehicles from operating on pavements, which limited its practicality and appeal. Dunkleys' automotive ventures spanned over two decades, marked by a reputation for eccentricity and unconventional designs.
