Feiyue was a Chinese automobile brand that operated briefly between 1958 and 1960. It was established by the Shanghai Mini-Auto Works, located in Shanghai Municipality. The brand's name, which translates to "Flying Leap," was a reference to the Great Leap Forward, a significant political campaign in China during that period.
The Feiyue brand produced a limited number of mini-taxis, with only about 25 units manufactured. These vehicles were characterized by their open, doorless design and could accommodate up to four passengers. Weighing approximately 400 kilograms, the Feiyue mini-taxi had a modest maximum speed of 31 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour) and demonstrated a fuel consumption rate of 51 liters per 100 kilometers.
Despite its short production run, Feiyue represented an early attempt at creating affordable urban transportation in China during a time of significant social and economic change. The brand's legacy remains tied to this unique period in Chinese automotive history.
