Dongfanghong was an automotive brand that emerged from China's First Tractor Works Auto Sub-Works, located in Luoyang City, Henan Province. The origins of the brand can be traced back to the early 1950s when the main tractor factory was established with significant assistance from the Soviet Union. The factory initially focused on producing Caterpillar tractors under the Dongfanghong name, which translates to "The East is Red."

In 1965, the company expanded its operations by launching a small sub-factory dedicated to heavy truck production, which primarily manufactured military trucks based on Berliet designs. This diversification marked a significant development in the company's capabilities and product offerings.

The brand made its foray into the passenger car market in 1991, introducing two models: a 797cc five-seat saloon and an estate car, both built on the Haerbin WJ 1010 chassis. The saloon was designated as the Dongfanghong LT 6390, while the estate variant was known as the Dongfanghong LT 5010JF. Additionally, a larger medium-sized saloon was introduced, referred to as the YlTUO. The production of these vehicles continued until 1994, marking a brief but notable chapter in the history of Chinese automotive manufacturing.
