The Bronco Dune Duster, a special customized version of Ford Division's new four-wheel-drive vehicle, will he on display at the International Auto Show, New York Coliseum, April 9-17.
The utility/sports-type vehicle was designed in Ford's Styling Center in Dearborn, Mich., and the customizing was carried out by Barris Kustom, 10811 Riverside Dr., North Hollywood, Calif.
Many interior and exterior modifications have been made to the basic six-cylinder Bronco roadster to achieve a unique sporty appearance with added luxury and safety features.
The exterior paint is a specially formulated Golden Saddle Pearl, and modifications include an NHRA-approved roll bar with integral headrests, a windshield designed to coordinate with the contour of the roll bar, walnut appliques on the rear side panels and exposed chrome exhaust pipes.
The heat shielding rocker panel behind the pipes is formed of black and white anodized aluminum. Chrome wheel lip moldings accent the machined steel alloy wheels, which are equipped with knockoff hubs.
The hood was redesigned to incorporate an air scoop for added engine cooling, rubber "snubbers” protect the bumpers from scratches and a performance-type gas filler adds to the sportiness of the trim. Completing the exterior modifications are special racing mirrors and unique stepover door panels with a padded sill, built-in step and an assist handle.
Custom Interior appointments include a walnut steering wheel and front bucket seats with russet suede bolsters and perforated leather cushions and seatbacks. The instrument panel is trimmed with suede padding and is outfitted with walnut-trimmed control knobs.
Beige loop carpeting covers the floor of both front and rear compartments, with narrow walnut strips dividing the carpet in the rear to facilitate loading and unloading. Both the front seats and the jump seats in the rear area are equipped with deluxe push-button seat belts.
A tonneau cover for rear compartment protection is designed with quickfastening snaps. Sides of the load bed are topped with a stainless steel rail.
The Bronco Dune Duster also will be displayed at other auto shows throughout the country.
