Dodge – Daytona R/T

The Dodge Daytona R/T was a concept car built as a styling and engineering study based on the production Dodge Daytona, a coupe also sold in Europe under the Chrysler ES name. It was presented as a 2+2 coupe with three doors and previewed a possible future design direction for the Daytona line.

Compared with the production coupe, the R/T concept received a rounder, more aggressive front end with small futuristic-style headlamps replacing the pop-up units. The window area was enlarged, with flush-fitting door glass, while the front and rear wheel arches were substantially widened, increasing overall width by 18 cm to 194 cm. Broadened sills visually linked the wheel arches, and additional, enlarged air intakes reinforced the sporting appearance. Other features included a glass roof, an integrated tail spoiler, ground effects, and a remote door-opening system that eliminated the need for exterior door handles.

Underneath, the R/T used the running gear from the Dodge Daytona ES Turbo, including its 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, fitted with a variable nozzle turbocharger and producing 177 PS at 5200 rpm and 285 Nm of torque at 2400 rpm. Drive went to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system, though further technical details were not disclosed. The concept rode on distinctively styled alloy wheels fitted with experimental Goodyear tires sized 275/40 VR 17. It measured 460 cm long, 194 cm wide, and 127 cm high, with a wheelbase of 246 cm and a track of 160 cm.
