The Body was a two-seat Russian roadster with a folding soft top, built by the car division of the Moscow firm Cardi, which Sergey Kharitonov set up to realise his dream of making it. The firm first dealt in watches and built the car once it had raised the money. Its makers concentrated on the shape of the body and the design of the interior, and the body was fitted to a standard VAZ chassis, so that servicing was no harder than for a Zhiguli. The name could be read as the car feeling like an extension of its driver's body or as the English term body car.
Finished in a flesh-silver colour, the Body was shown at the second Moscow International Motor Show, MMA-95, in 1995, where it drew great public interest. A year later Cardi followed it with a more rugged open car, the Next.
