The Isuzu VehiCROSS concept was developed to achieve a high-level balance between high-speed driving comfort and rough-road capability. To reduce overall vehicle weight, the concept utilizes a lightweight frame constructed from carbon fiber and aluminum composite materials. Mechanical features include a long-stroke double wishbone suspension, large-diameter narrow tires, an ultra-wide tread, and short body overhangs.
The styling is designed around the theme of "Wild & Friendly." The exterior configuration consists of a compact cabin enclosed by thick pillars, substantial and tight body surfaces, and an active front graphic layout combined with a mobile rear view. The interior layout uses an exciting, austere sports design tailored to evoke the capability of the vehicle on various road surfaces.
The concept is powered by a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder, direct-injection, DOHC supercharged engine. This powerplant places the fuel injection valve near the center of the four valves to control the fuel-air mixture via internal cylinder airflow. The system arranges a rich mixture near the spark plug and a leaner mixture around the outer edges, facilitating rapid flame propagation to ensure complete combustion throughout the cylinder in a short duration.
