The Isuzu Como is a midship prototype vehicle exploring a vehicle genre designated as a Grand Sport Utility. Positioned as neither a traditional passenger car nor a standard recreational vehicle (RV), the basic concept aims to provide comfortable high-speed travel from urban areas to resorts while accommodating large amounts of luggage. The primary engineering premise evaluates whether space can be maximized by mounting a compact 3.5-liter V12 engine in a mid-engine configuration, establishing the concept of a super sports pickup.
The exterior design features an extremely forward-positioned cabin contrasted with a vast cargo space at the rear. Despite utilizing a pickup format, the aerodynamic body shape incorporates the capsule-like form traditional to Isuzu design to retain a sports-oriented appearance.
Through the combination of a long wheelbase and the midship layout, the interior layout prioritizes rear cargo space efficiency while maintaining enough cabin utility to accommodate four adults. The rear cargo area features an automatic lifting back-end panel and a detachable rear deck hood, allowing the vehicle to be loaded with large recreational items. The interior trim elements are unified under a sports design themed around a capsule aesthetic.
