The Isuzu COA-III is a concept vehicle designed around the theme of merging all-round driving performance with an organic, aggressive style. This design philosophy was subsequently passed down to the production Isuzu VehiCROSS and the VX-2 concept vehicle displayed at the 32nd Tokyo Motor Show.
The exterior features a dual-theme body design where the upper portion is painted blue with smooth lines and surfaces to reflect an on-road sports car, while the lower section is styled to express the imagery and practicality of a tough off-roader vehicle. The body shape utilizes smooth curves balanced with a dome-shaped canopy to create a three-dimensional appearance. The canopy and the doors are engineered as a single integrated structure that lifts upward and forward using a hydraulic system. Inside the cabin, the seats are designed to emphasize visual continuity with the door trims and the center console.
Mechanically, the COA-III is equipped with NAVI-5, an electronically controlled mechanical automatic transmission. This specific iteration of the NAVI-5 system allows the shift control modes to adapt according to varying road surface conditions, and it features a system where control patterns can be configured using an IC card.
