Honda - Kiwami

time-calendar.png 2003

Original name: ホンダ キワミ

Advanced fuel cell technology + traditional Japanese aesthetics = a premium sedan

Honda was the world's first automaker to bring a fuel cell vehicle to market. The KIWAMI matches Honda's clean-performing fuel cell technology with the Japanese aesthetic of cleanliness to create an ideal sedan for the next generation. The beauty of a landscape as it changes hues with the seasons; the gentle murmur of a clean, flowing stream; the scent of a new season carried on the breeze .... The Japanese aesthetic sensibility and values are expressed in this unique vehicle, with its quietly strong, minimalist stance. KIWAMI's form embodies a simple, primitive beauty, yet advanced intelligent technologies concealed within ensure a quiet, safe, pleasant ride. Advanced packaging technology that made possible the lower floor ensures a roomy interior despite the vehicle's low roofline. The interior design reflects the Japanese sense of a luxurious, relaxing atmosphere. The latest in clean-running fuel cell technology meets the beauty of traditional Japan in this new premium sedan.

A new premium sedan with a cool dynamic design

A square design with vertically positioned side windows sets off the car's striking, wide-bodied, low-slung form.

Advanced yet simple design captures the Japanese sensibility

The interior design is based on the kind of feeling a person experiences when contemplating a carefully tended garden, or watching the interplay of light and shadow on a paper screen. The KIWAMI's unique aesthetic harmonizes advanced features such as an exterior information display and panel-touch shifting with a traditional Japanese sensibility for the ultimate in comfort and hospitality.

Advanced fuel cell system in an H-shaped power plant layout

Honda's original fuel cell system combines a Honda manufactured, next-generation, high performance stack and DC motor with a next-generation hydrogen storage system to realize improved response and energy efficiency. An H-shaped layout for the control unit, ultracapacitor, fuel cell stack, hydrogen storage unit, and other components creates a low center of gravity, lower overall vehicle height, and a spacious interior, along with stable synchronized-control 4WD handling performance.
