Great Southern Automobile Company was established in Birmingham, Alabama, in October 1909, although it did not commence production until January 1912. The company claimed to have achieved notable success by 1911, despite the absence of any vehicles prior to that year.
The automobiles produced by Great Southern were conventional in design, offering a selection of four-cylinder engines with outputs of 30 or 45/55 horsepower. The vehicles featured open bodywork, catering to the preferences of the era. By 1914, the company had streamlined its offerings to a single model, which was a 50-horsepower four-cylinder vehicle equipped with a substantial 8.6-liter engine.
Production of automobiles ceased in 1914, although the company continued to manufacture trucks until 1917. Ultimately, Great Southern Automobile Company faced bankruptcy shortly thereafter, marking the end of its operations.
