Gibson was an early American automobile manufacturer founded in 1899 by Charles D.P. Gibson in Jersey City, New Jersey. The company was notable for its innovative approach to automotive engineering during a time when the industry was still in its infancy.

Gibson developed a two-seater Stanhope model that was powered by a horizontal two-cylinder engine. This engine utilized carbonic acid gas stored in batteries, a novel concept for the era. Gibson claimed that this design allowed his vehicle to achieve a top speed of 60 mph (97 km/h), which he asserted was sufficient to secure the Land Speed Record at that time. However, despite these ambitious claims, Gibson was unable to demonstrate the vehicle's performance or secure the necessary financial backing to bring his car to market.

Ultimately, Gibson's efforts did not lead to commercial production, and the company faded from the automotive landscape. The innovative ideas presented by Gibson, however, contributed to the early development of automotive technology in the United States.
