Gale was an American automobile manufacturer that operated from 1905 to 1907, based in Galesburg, Illinois. The company was established by Western Tool Works and initially produced a two-seater runabout powered by an 8-horsepower single-cylinder horizontal engine, which was mounted under the seat. In its first year, Gale manufactured five of these vehicles.
In 1906, the company expanded its production significantly, producing over 100 cars. The lineup included an 18/20-horsepower two-cylinder model available in both tourer and runabout body styles, in addition to the original single-cylinder model. A notable feature of Gale vehicles was their tilting body design, which was hinged at the rear, allowing the entire body to be lifted for easier access to the engine for maintenance.
By 1907, Gale had introduced two twin-cylinder models, a 14-horsepower and a 24/26-horsepower variant, with engines now positioned at the front of the vehicles. Throughout its brief existence, Gale produced approximately 600 single-cylinder cars and 140 twin-cylinder models. The company also exported its vehicles to various international markets, including Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Borneo.
