Erie Motor Car Company was established in Painesville, Ohio, in 1916 with the intent to acquire the Vulcan Manufacturing Company, also located in Painesville. The company produced its own line of automobiles while also providing service for Vulcan vehicles.

The Erie cars featured a conventional design and were equipped with a 33-horsepower four-cylinder engine. They were available as either tourers or roadsters, with prices set at $795 during the years 1916-1917 and increasing to $850 from 1918 to 1919. In 1920, the company announced plans for a larger and more expensive tourer priced at $1,975; however, this model was reportedly never produced.

In addition to passenger vehicles, Erie Motor Car Company manufactured the E.M.C. truck between 1917 and 1918. It is important to note that this company was not affiliated with the Erie Motor Truck Company, which operated in Erie, Pennsylvania, from 1914 to 1922. The Erie Motor Car Company ceased operations shortly after its brief period of activity, which lasted until 1919.
