Elite was an American automobile manufacturer that operated briefly from 1901 to 1902. Founded by D.B. Smith & Co. in Utica, New York, the company specialized in producing light steam cars. These vehicles were characterized by their two-cylinder engines and chain drive systems, which were common features of the era.
The design of Elite cars was notable for its ornate bodywork, which included compound curves and extensive use of brass accents on components such as lamps, dashboards, hubs, and steering tillers. In addition to steam-powered vehicles, the company also produced a 12-horsepower petrol car known as the Saratoga Tourist, expanding its offerings in the early automotive market.
Despite its brief existence, Elite contributed to the diversity of early automotive design and engineering in the United States during the turn of the 20th century.
