The Electronic Motor Car Company was established in 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The company focused on developing electric-powered vehicles, with its most notable product being the Electronic sports car. This vehicle featured a conventional appearance, characterized by a fiberglass body designed by LA Saetta, but it incorporated innovative technology in its powertrain.
The Electronic sports car utilized an electric motor that was mounted on the rear axle, providing propulsion. To support the electric motor, the vehicle was equipped with a small petrol or diesel engine that powered a generator, which in turn recharged an 80-cell battery system. This hybrid approach allowed for extended range and performance, distinguishing it from purely electric vehicles of the time.
The company had ambitious plans for the future, envisioning a network of radio transmitters installed across the country. This system was intended to relay electronic signals to receivers in the car, converting these signals into electricity to recharge the batteries without relying on the petrol engine. Although preliminary tests of miniature versions of this technology were successful, the project was ultimately abandoned, and the company did not achieve widespread commercial success.
