Eesti Engineering was established around 1985 in Poway, California, as a manufacturer of a unique automotive product known as the Eesti. Unlike traditional kit cars, the Eesti was offered as a set of plans that allowed builders to construct a sports coupe from raw materials. This approach provided enthusiasts with the opportunity to create a custom vehicle while utilizing readily available components.

The design of the Eesti featured a distinctive two-seat coupe configuration characterized by angular, wedge-like lines. The vehicle's running gear was sourced from General Motors front-wheel drive sedans, incorporating L4 and V6 engines that were positioned amidships for improved weight distribution and handling. The frame of the Eesti was constructed from fabricated steel, and the body was made from a combination of fiberglass and polyurethane foam, which contributed to its lightweight structure.

Although the construction process was labor-intensive, the Eesti appealed to automotive enthusiasts seeking a unique and customizable sports car experience. The brand's focus on providing detailed plans for building the vehicle set it apart in the automotive landscape of the mid-1980s.
