DuoPower, Inc. was an automotive company based in Santa Fe Springs, California, that specialized in the design and construction of concept cars. The company was led by Masao Watanabe, a designer who had gained recognition in Japan before relocating to the United States in the 1980s.
Among the notable designs produced by DuoPower was the Gila Monster, a radical roadster introduced in 1994, which featured a Cadillac V8 engine. Another significant model was the Koga 5.7 Afghan, a front-engined coupé developed in 1993. This vehicle utilized the running gear of a Chevrolet Camaro and was powered by a 5700cc V8 engine. The Koga was created for a Japanese parts manufacturer that envisioned DuoPower producing customer models either as kits or fully assembled vehicles, with optional components from the Corvette chassis and suspension.
Additionally, DuoPower designed the Pandora, a restyled version of the Mercedes 190, which showcased a sleek roadster body. The Pandora was presented at the 1992 Detroit Autoshow, where it garnered considerable attention. However, despite the interest in these designs, only prototypes of the Gila Monster, Koga 5.7 Afghan, and Pandora were ever constructed.
