Dorchester

1906-1906

Dorchester was an American automobile manufacturer established in 1906 in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The company emerged when it took over the factory of Crest Manufacturing Company, which had recently ceased production of the Crestmobile. Dorchester aimed to produce a vehicle similar to its predecessor but opted to revert to an earlier design of the Crestmobile.

The Dorchester model featured a single-cylinder engine that was fully exposed at the front of the car, positioned ahead of the front axle. Despite its innovative design, the vehicle was not well-received in the market, even with a price tag of $400, leading to limited sales. In 1907, the company introduced a more sophisticated model known as the Hub, indicating an attempt to improve upon its initial offerings. However, the overall impact of Dorchester in the automotive industry remained minimal, and the brand did not achieve significant commercial success.
