Dodge Motorcar Company was established in 1914 in Detroit, Michigan, by Alvan M. Dodge, who had prior experience with the WAHL Company. The company aimed to produce a light automobile powered by a 25-horsepower four-cylinder engine, featuring a friction transmission and chain drive, available in both roadster and touring configurations.
Despite being founded in the same city and year as the more well-known Dodge Brothers company, there was no affiliation between the two entities. Alvan M. Dodge announced his vehicle several months before the Dodge Brothers introduced their own model. This led to a legal dispute, as Alvan M. Dodge sought to protect his name from being used by the brothers. The case was resolved in 1916, ultimately favoring the Dodge Brothers, who had by then established themselves as successful automobile manufacturers.
The Dodge Motorcar Company struggled to gain traction in the competitive automotive market and ceased operations shortly after its founding, with very few vehicles completed before it dissolved in 1914.
