Decker Automobile Company was established in the early 20th century in Owego, New York. The company was founded by Ward Decker, who previously served as the president of the Decker Automatic Telephone Exchange Company in Oswego.
In 1902, Decker designed a compact automobile featuring a shaft-driven system and powered by a 5.5 horsepower angle-cylinder engine, which was housed under a bonnet reminiscent of Renault designs. In early 1903, he sought to commercialize his creation by forming a company dedicated to its manufacture.
Despite these efforts, production of the vehicle never commenced, and the company did not achieve operational status. The Decker Automobile Company remains a historical footnote in the early automotive industry, illustrating the challenges faced by many early automotive entrepreneurs.
