The Cosmopolitan automobile brand was established by the D.W. Haydock Motor Car Manufacturing Company in St. Louis, Missouri, operating from 1907 to 1910. The company initially introduced a prototype known as the Haydock Front Drive, which featured a high-wheeler design characterized by a round radiator and a front-mounted engine. This engine was a 5-horsepower single-cylinder unit that transmitted power to the front axle via a single chain.

In 1908, Cosmopolitan expanded its offerings by introducing three production models equipped with a 10/12 horsepower two-cylinder engine, catering to varying passenger capacities of two, three, and four individuals. The brand continued to evolve, increasing engine power to 14 horsepower in 1909 and further to 18 horsepower by 1910. Notably, the production models retained the front engine location, which was atypical for high-wheelers of the time, as most competitors positioned their engines beneath the seat and drove the rear wheels.
