Commonwealth was an early American automobile brand that operated briefly in the early 20th century. Founded by Coburn & Co. in Boston, Massachusetts, the company produced vehicles between 1903 and 1904.
The Commonwealth automobile featured a single-cylinder engine, which was mounted at the front of the vehicle beneath a bonnet styled similarly to that of Renault. The brand offered its cars in both 2-seater and 4-seater configurations, catering to different consumer needs. Notably, the final drive of the vehicle was accomplished through a chain mechanism.
Despite its innovative design, only one prototype of the Commonwealth automobile is known to have been built, marking the brand as a short-lived venture in the history of American automotive manufacturing.
