Columbia Electric Vehicle Co. was established in February 1914 in Detroit, Michigan. The company initially operated under its original name but quickly rebranded to Columbian to differentiate itself from the Hartford-based Columbia, which had already ceased operations.

During its brief existence from 1914 to 1917, Columbian produced electric vehicles characterized by their stylish curved lines, which offered a more appealing aesthetic compared to many contemporaneous models. The company's lineup included a two-seater runabout and a three-seat coupe during the 1914-1915 model years, with the addition of a four-seat brougham in 1916.

Despite the attractive pricing of the runabout at $785 in 1914, the company struggled to achieve profitability. By 1916, the price of the same model had increased to $1,175, reflecting the challenges faced in the electric vehicle market of the time. Ultimately, the company ceased operations shortly thereafter, marking the end of its brief foray into the automotive industry.
