Colonial was an American automobile brand established in 1920 by the Mechanical Development Corporation, based in San Francisco, California. The brand is notable for producing a single prototype of the Colonial car, which was significant for being the first vehicle in the United States to feature four-wheel hydraulic brakes. This innovation predated similar advancements seen in models from Duesenberg and Kenworthy.

The prototype of the Colonial car was equipped with a straight-eight engine, boasting a bore and stroke of 63 x 114 mm (2840 cc) and generating 60 brake horsepower. It was designed with a unique hard-top touring body that could be easily converted into a closed car. Additionally, the vehicle featured disc wheels and included two side-mounted spare tires. The estimated cost of constructing the prototype was around $30,000, while the anticipated price for production models was set at $1,800. Despite its innovative features, only one Colonial car was ever built, marking a brief but noteworthy chapter in automotive history.
