Company Name: Coleman Motors

Place: Littleton, Colorado

Country: United States

Coleman Motors was an American automotive manufacturer based in Littleton, Colorado, known primarily for its production of four-wheel drive trucks from 1923 until the 1950s. The company also engaged in vehicle conversions and continued operations until its closure in 1986.

In an effort to diversify into the automotive market, Coleman Motors developed two prototypes of passenger cars. The first prototype was constructed in 1933 and featured a distinctive design characterized by slab sides and the absence of conventional mudguards, a style that would later become prevalent in automotive design. This prototype was powered by a Ford V8 engine, which was mounted under a sharply arched front axle, showcasing innovative engineering for its time. The design also incorporated a Ford transmission, rear axle assembly, and wheels.

Despite the forward-thinking design, Coleman Motors faced significant challenges in bringing the vehicle to market. Plans to produce the car at a price of $1,000 each did not materialize, likely due to the economic difficulties of the era and the radical nature of the design. In 1935, a second prototype was completed, which retained similar design elements and was based on a 1935 Ford V8 two-door sedan. However, like the first prototype, this project was ultimately abandoned, marking the end of Coleman Motors' foray into passenger car manufacturing.
